I poetry …..revisited

October 27, 2009

I Am Llama

I am black, brown or white and sometimes a mixture of all three.

I am mostly quiet but I will cluck, snort or even hum when I am hot or in fear of danger.

I am gentle and calm, until frightened or mad…this can get ugly I’ll spit on you and let you know it!

I am a protector of sheep and goats on the farm were I work. I chase away predators who want to eat my friends.

I have many other uses as well, I make a great pet because I am so gentle. A hat, scarf or glove for others who use my lush warm fleece.

I am even a great help in keeping fires burning HOT! Just collect my dung, PEW! And I’ll keep it burning hot.

In the wild I roam in wild groups or herds in the Andes Mountains of South America.

I am very famished, I devour lots of plants, I can’t help it, I have a three part stomach to fill. I chew my cud like my friend the cow.

I am beautiful.

I am a Llama.

Memoir…

October 21, 2009

I will definitely have to marinate myself in various memoirs in order to get a feel for creating one of my own. I have many memories but am not so sure as to how well I can share these with others in a way that is entertaining as well as well written. I don’t know which format I would prefer to write in yet. I do feel that I would prefer to write in first person but that could change once I get more comfortable with the whole process. It will take me some time to get the process down of expressing thoughts and feelings without actually saying them. I think it will be challenging for me to express all that’s going on without actually coming out and saying it plainly.

I don’t want to teach my students do this type of writing just to get a grade. I want to instill in my students a love for sharing the events of their lives in a way that they can express themselves in a meaningful way that gives them a sense of accomplishment for the work they have put into their writing. The greatest challenge for me will be finding just exactly which topics I want to write about, what do I have the most thoughts and feelings about….the birth of my sons, my wedding day, the day my grandpa died….what would I write about? Leaving home to live in Germany, smells, greatest fears. Oh the possibilities are endless.  The process begins…

When I was Young…. Boy

October 19, 2009

I loved the simplicity of When I was Young In the Mountain, it tells such a sweet story in a simple way but is just enough to make you want to read the next page. I will definitely share this one with my students. I am half way through with this weeks reading in Boy. I will finish it up tomorrow. I am at the part about the dirty Mrs. Pratchett and the boys finding a dead mouse. I am sure this will be great. This book is also an easy read and has kept my attention.  I like how he tells how the memories he has wrote about are ones that he did not have to search or meditate on they were vivid memories he has retained from the time they happened to the time when he decided to include them in this very unique book. I feel I will thoroughly enjoy all this book.

The marination begins….

October 19, 2009

This week in my class I have planned to share several I poems with my class and begin class discussion on what we want to write our class I poem on. I hope to guide them toward animals and use it in our science to cover the needs of animals. I have planned my introduction and now I am in the progress of deciding whether to work in groups or whole group. I have even thought about having one group focusing on our science unit and another on the social studies unit focusing on community helpers. My trouble comes in when I look at how many are reading and writing below grade level and trying to find the time to help them find resources that are appropriate for their individual reading level. Time is a great restraint for me at this point.

Have any suggestions I would love to hear any advice or suggestions.

On the other hand I really like I poetry and think it is a great way to learn information in an entertaining way.

I Am Llama first draft….

October 14, 2009

     I Am Llama

I roam wild in groups or herds in the Andes Mountains of South America.

I am gentle and calm, until frightened or mad, and then I’ll spit on you and let you know it!

I am a protector of sheep and goats on a farm, I chase away their predators the fierce wolves and coyotes.

I have many other uses as well, a pet for some because I am so gentle, a hat for others who use my thick fleece.

I am even good for helping keep fires burning hot, just collect my dung, Pew!!! And I’ll keep it burning hot.

I am mostly quiet but I will cluck, snort or even hum when I am hot or in fear of danger.

I am black, brown or white and sometimes a mixture of all three.

I am very hungry and I eat lots of plants,

I can’t help it; I have three stomachs to fill.

I chew my cud just like a cow.

I am beautiful.

I am a Llama.
